Nadia and Carol

Nadia Comaneci (Gheorghe Gheorghiu Dej, now Onesti) Romanian Gymnast born 12 November 1961. She was the first Romanian who scored a total of 10 in an Olympic competition. Comaneci was first discovered by Bela Karolyi who was later her Romanian gymnastics coach when she was only six years old. In 1969, she competed in the Romanian Junior Championships and finished 13th. She won in 1970. In 1972, as part of an event for communist-controlled countries' juniors in the lead-up to the Olympics she bagged three gold awards. Then in 1973 and 1974 she became the overall junior champion. She beat the Russian Lyudmila Torishcheva. The five-time European Champion in her first international senior competition in 1975. In the event, she took home four golds as well as a silver. In 1976 she became the first female performer to make the reverse double salo of the uneven parallel bar as part of her demount. The American Cup was hers. at the American Cup, held in New York City. Carol Marie Wayne is a US citizen born September 6, 1942, in Chicago, Illinois. Carol was a part of the world of entertainment during her teens. She made her debut as a figure skater performing with her cousin Nina Wayne as part of the show that was a traveling spectacle known as Ice Capades. These shows included theatrical ice-skating shows.
